Shareville
Dario Faniglione

As a Multimedia Designer employed by Birmingham City University from September 2008, I have been working on Shareville full time.

Shareville is a place where you can engage in a variety of real world scenarios situated in real world contexts - it is just the environment that is a 3D model.

I have been developing all the Flash interface, using Actionscript 2 and 3 with Papervision3D, besides some of the 3D models.

Together with Professor Alan Staley, Niall Mackenzie and Mark Hetherington I am also part of the team in charge of creating, developing and maintain every element of Shareville - from its name to its accessibility, from the technology in use to the overall look, etc.

The town is a system of contextualized links to a variety of learning and educational resources, produced by SALT at BCU in the past few years. These resources are now open source and globally available through Shareville.

So far, this is the biggest project I have been working at. It is been also a vocational experience, as I realized I will mainly work as a Multimedia Designer for Learning Technology in the future.

House Survey - Interactive View
Dario Faniglione

The interactive view produced for the School of Property, Construction & Planning at BCU is a original and unique approach to 360 degree VR photography.

In order to produce this application, few techniques and skills are been combined: photography (using the "panorama" approach), photo stitching and editing (thanks to the vital help by Sunisa Noochouy), coding in Actionscript 3 using the Papervision3D library.

Based on the success of this application, I am thinking to marketing it for holiday houses, restaurants, hotels...
Whish me luck!

Virtual Solicitor Office
Dario Faniglione

BCU Solicitor LLP is a Virtual Solicitor Office existing in Shareville.

It's been designed in order to simulate a first person virtual work experience in a law firm. Students at Birmingham City University get instructions from their lecturers, in order to make full pedagogical use of this learning tool.

I have been following every aspect of the virtual solicitor office, producing the 3D environment, the short videos (filmed in green screen and finalized in After Effects) and the Flash interface.

BCU Solicitor LLP is been commissioned by Sarah King and Angela Kerry, both senior lectures in the BCU Faculty of Law.
